Who We Are

About Us

Our History

Our story began with 33Ohio Urban Forestry. We began the nonprofit to enrich the present and fortify the future of the environmental vitality of urban areas in Northeast Ohio by planting and managing native trees and plants on properties which are located in underserved urban areas. In January of 2017, we submitted a proposal to the City of Akron to acquire approximately three acres of land in the North Hill area of Akron. The property had endured loads of illegal dumping.

Many of the trees were non-native, overly mature, or dying. In 2018 the acquisition was complete and we began the process of rehabilitating the environment: soil analysis, consultation with foresters, cleaning up the land of dumpfill trash, removing invasive species and replacing them with native ones. By 2021 the property had been cleaned and restored. 1,600 total new trees were planted, spaced eight feet apart. 4000 total sq feet was planted with native wildflower pollinator seed mix in order to enhance the wild flowers and diversity on the site. Among the wildflower species thriving on the land are our urban forest-grown goldenseal.

Alkaloid

The alkaloid content in Goldenseal is a crucial factor that determines its potency and therapeutic benefits.

The primary alkaloids in Goldenseal, which contribute to its medicinal properties, are berberine, hydrastine, and canadine. The total alkaloid content is often used as a measure of the herb’s quality.

While specific alkaloid content can vary based on factors such as growing conditions, harvesting methods, and processing techniques, here are some general guidelines to consider for high-quality Goldenseal:
